As you have gathered I have joined Team in Training. It all started about a month ago when a friend from work mentioned the program and suggested I check it out. I figured, why not? It would be great to get in shape and do something for a good cause.. I figured I would run a half marathon, as in 13.1 miles, and leave it at that. Well, I show up to the big Team In Training kickoff/info meeting and suddenly I am being talked into an Olympic distance Triathlon (.9 mile swim, 23 mile bike, 6 mile run) I thought I could handle that regardless of the fact that I have never been on a road bike and haven't ran or swam in a very long time..
Next thing I know they talk me into the HALF IRONMAN!?! What?! 1.2 Mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile ride... WHAT?!!? I can't do that.. But they are very convincing.. I get a lot of "You can do this! TNT over prepares you! Joe Shmoe did it and he only had one leg! (not really) It's easy!" Yeah, right.. easy.
Well I signed up anyway, and was happy with my half ironman until my first bike ride... Well, it went well, really well, and my endorphins where pumping, I was feeling really motivated (or light-headed because I'm so out of shape) and I started asking if it is possible for me, a non-runner, non-biker, and non-swimmer, to do the FULL IRONMAN. Of course the team responds with "Of course you can! You should do it! blah blah positive positive blah" So I did it. I will be participating in the FULL IRONMAN in Sonoma in July. I will be swimming 2.4 miles. I will be biking 112 miles. And finally I will be running a full friggin' marathon. All within 17 hours. Go me!
Hahahaha one leg...awesome...I believe in you! I mean, I think you're a little crazy, but I know you can do it. I'm stoked to head to Sonoma to watch you race. Slash, maybe I might be convinced to be as crazy as you and do a full. Who knows. Wooo! Go team!!
